Eurovision Song Contest 2009 E-mail

ImageEurovision Song Contest 2009 will take place in Russi 53rd contest of pop song Eurovision has finished in Belgrade. Russian representative, Dima Bilan, became the winner, whose song "Believe" won the majority of votes of the European TV audience - 272. The total TV audience of Eurovision final constituted more than 100 million people in 50 countries. Eurovision-2009 will take place in Russia.

President Dmitry Medvedev and prime-minister Vladimir Putin thanked Dima for this.

According to handbook men and journalists' forecast, the most serious competitors of Bilan were Ukrainian Ani Lorak and Greek Kalomira. But eventually Bilan beat Ani Lorak, who took the second place, by 42 points, and Kalomira - by 54. The singer pointed out that this victory stood in one line with gold medal of Russia and the European basketball championship, victory of Zenit in the UEFA Cup and the victory in world hockey championship.

The contribution to the victory of Russia of Olympic champion-figure skater, Plyuschenko, became one of the main issues of the press-conference, having overshadowed even the unprecedented fact of participation in the contest of Stradivarius violin, which Hungarian Edvin Marton played. Mr. Plyuschenko refused to estimate his role in the triumph, having noted that it is common for the whole team.

It's partly a double victory. Dima Bilan got the first place. The second place is 50%-related to Russia, as the music for the performance of Ani Lorak from Ukraine was produced and written by Russian citizen, Philip Kirkorov.

Eurovision had two semi-finals for the first time this year. This was aimed at separation of historically close countries and minimization of voting according to geopolitical principle.  However, in the final the majority of countries mostly voted for ‘their own' countries: Ireland - for Great Britain, Cyprus - to Greece, Moldova - to Romania etc.

Therefore, victory of Russia and the presence of countries of former USSR and Yugoslavia in the top ten finalists must be the consequence of high popularity of the contest among the spectators from the former Soviet block. Meanwhile, Russia's victory caused malicious comments from Great Britain. Newspaper The Time writes that during the contest countries vote by geographical blocks, supporting their neighbours. "Great Britain, as opposed to 8 Scandinavian and Baltic countries - the so-called ‘Vikings' Empire' - has no its own Western-European block."

The amount required for conduction of Eurovision-2009 is still unknown. Usually it varies within €10-€20 million. For example, last year contest which took place in Finland, cost €14 million. It is considered that most expenses are laid at the European broadcasting union - major organizer of the contest, however, Eurovision-2005, which passed in Kyiv, for more than 50% was financed by the state. Other sources of financing are sponsor funds and selling tickets for the event.

Lyubimov mentioned the wish of ‘Russia' to bring the contest to the Red Square, but asked to view this statement as figurative as the exact platform isn't defined yet. Usually, the contest is held on large covered arenas, and in this sense the experience of conducting the largest country show - Muz-TV Award in sport complex Olympiysky - may be useful. Meanwhile, Yana Rudkovskaya, immediately after congratulate call to Belgrade from president Medvedev, expressed the wish that Eurovision-2009 was held in St.-Petersburg. This doesn't contradict the rules of the contest: it needn't necessarily to take place in the capital.

So it is not decided yet about the exact place of Eurovision 2009, but that it will take place in Russia is guaranteed!
