Alexander Rybak, 23, won the Eurovision Song Contest last night for Norway! The Norwegian violinist performed his self-composed tune, ‘Fairytale,’ with great enthusiasm and an infectious smile that warmed hearts all over Europe! :) It’s the third time Norway has won the competition. Although the classically-trained Rybak grew up outside the Norwegian capital, Oslo, he was born in Belarus. This year, for the first time, phone votes from the public were combined with the votes of national juries to decide the marks. Despite alliances between neighbouring countries remaining apparent, Norway’s winning song won praise across the borders, receiving a record-breaking 387 points - the most in the contest’s 53 year history. The UK also did surprisingly well with ‘It’s My Time’ finishing at 5th place, a song written by Andrew Lloyd Weber, and sung by Jade Ewen, 21. |
